After being denied bail January 5, the main suspect in York’s Village webcam murder case is now on trial for the first-degree murder of York student Qian “Necole” Liu.
Brian Dickson, a former student who actively participated in York’s student politics, became the main suspect in the murder of the 23-year-old international student in April 2011.
Liu, who came to York to study English in the York University English Language Institute (YUELI), was found dead in her basement home in the Village. She was naked from the waist down, but had no obvious signs of trauma.
The evidence from the case, according to Constable Wendy Drummond of Toronto police, is under a publication ban. Likewise, the contents of the preliminary hearing are also under a publication ban.
The trial is expected to last two to three weeks.
