Now if only they could get the ants to do essays and pull all-nighters...

Students taking classes in McLaughlin College have had to share their space with a colony of ants.

Complaints of an ant infestation in McLaughlin College’s tutorial room 050A—complaints made over a year ago—are still going unnoticed.

“MC 050A has an ant infestation and it’s getting out of control,” read an email from an anonymous student. “Ants are crawling all over some tables. I spend six hours a day in this room for a class, and it is causing a major disturbance.”

Ashley Rodriguez speculates that it has been well over a year since she has used the classroom for her Issues in Indigenous Education course. Even when she brought up the issue to her professor, nothing constructive came of the situation.

“I’ve mentioned something to the professor last year,” says Rodriguez. “She was just like, ‘Oh, don’t put your bags there.’”

Joseph Sanguedolce, manager of custodial services, says that they do not deal with pest control but instead notify the grounds maintenance crew.

“This is shared responsibility for everyone,” says Sanguedolce.

Regarding the infestation, custodial services have not heard of any news. Excalibur attempted to contact grounds maintenance, but did not receive a response as of publication.

In the meantime, students in room MC 050A still have their tiny neighbours to deal with.

“Look how far they’re going, they’re going all the way over there,” says Rodriguez, pointing at the middle of the floor as the ants make their way across the class. “It’s kind of gross.”
