The Lions men’s football team suffered their fifth straight loss at the hands of the Ottawa Gee-Gees during the Lions’ homecoming game on Saturday. Despite some strong plays by the Lions, they fell to their opponent 46-12.
The first quarter looked promising for the Lions. Basam Attalla made a field goal in the first period to put the Lions up to an early 3-0 lead over the nationally-ranked Gee-Gees. The Gee-Gees would not settle for this and they came back in the second quarter to put up 23 points. The Lions did not accept being left in the dust and rallied to add seven points of their own to keep the Gee-Gees somewhat close for a 23-10 score at halftime.
The Gee-Gees slowed down a bit after halftime only adding an additional 14 points, while the Lions made a two-point safety near the end of the quarter. The Lions hung on and played with stronger defence in the final quarter, only allowing the Gee-Gees to add nine more points for a final score of 46-12.
The Lions are now 0-5 for the season. They will be looking to get into the win column next weekend when they travel to Waterloo to take on the Warriors on Saturday, September 28. The Lions will return to Alumni Field on Friday, October 11 at 7 p.m. to take on the Varsity Blues in the annual Red & Blue Bowl.
