Announcing INDUSTRY TALKS 2.0

From September 2024 to March 2025, YorkU Motion Media Studio (YUMMS), in partnership with OYA Black Arts Coalition (OBAC) and Cinespace CineCares Toronto, will host INDUSTRY TALKS 2.0, a series of masterclasses centred around producing and the growing influence of new technologies on the film and media industry.

Building on the success of the original INDUSTRY TALKS series, which ran during the 2023–2024 school year, INDUSTRY TALKS 2.0 will feature monthly in-person masterclasses with Canadian artists, producers, and researchers from a wide range of fields. Each event will focus on the diverse experiences of the guests — as well as the moderators — with emerging media technologies, and how these new innovations might affect film and media makers and scholars working within the ever-evolving landscape of the digital age.

The first session of the season will take place at YUMMS on Sept. 26 from 6 – 8 p.m., and will feature guest speaker Ian Iqbal Rashid, a poet, curator, and filmmaker. The session will be moderated by writer Fabio Montanari, York’s very own assistant professor in Cinema and Media Arts. The session will be followed by a Q&A and social networking mixer.

She loves all things Gothic, and when she's not working on screenplays she enjoys writing fantasy and horror stories. She also moonlights as the keyboardist of the Toronto shoe gaze band, Whisper Gang. Most of her free time is divided equally between investigating new books/films/series and rewatching episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She is passionate about sustainability, mental health, abolishing the stigma around genre fiction, championing the Oxford comma, and pet videos. She strongly believes Ulysses is a brilliant book, and one day hopes to figure out why.
