Since it was founded at Glendon in 1959 – the student population was 73 the next year – York University’s way has definitely been tried many times over.
York celebrated its 52nd birthday March 24. Red and white balloons adorned Vari Hall alongside the York History Timeline, while the Student Centre buzzed with students showing their school pride by wearing York’s colours and name. Students who donned York gear won gifts for their spirit.
The cake-cutting ceremony took place at noon. Free slices of cake were handed out at East Bear Pit, Vari Hall, the Student Centre as well as at Central Square, TEL building, Winters and Stong cafeterias.
After the ceremony, students headed to the Student Centre for a stage show performance where talent shows and a cake-eating contest were held.
Students were able to receive discounts at the York Bookstore, the Nutrition Health Centre at York Lanes, Campus Bubble Tea and from all Aramark cafeterias for the special occasion.
Glendon campus was not left out of the bonne fête celebrations – a cake-cutting ceremony was held in the Breezeway, and cupcakes were handed out to community members on campus in the spirit of York’s 52nd.
