On Thursday, March 27, 2025, YorkU Motion Media Studio (YUMMS) will host the final INDUSTRY TALKS of the year. In partnership with OYA Black Arts Coalition (OBAC), Cinespace CineCares Toronto, and Connected Minds, the highly immersive conversation will feature award-winning showrunner, screenwriter, playwright, producer, poet and emcee, Motion, in dialogue with filmmaker and YUMMS Director Ingrid Veninger.
This special event offers students and emerging creatives the opportunity to engage with industry professionals, gain valuable insights into film and television, and network over refreshments.
Motion, an alumna of the Canadian Film Centre (CFC), is known for her work on TV series Coroner (CBC/CW), Diggstown (CBC/FOX) and The Porter (CBC/BET), and co-writer of the Canadian Academy Screen Award-winning feature film Akilla’s Escape with director Charles Officer, which premiered at TIFF 2020. Co-Executive producer of Revenge of the Black Best Friend on CBC Gem, she was also nominated for a DORA award for her inter-disciplinary play ORALTORIO: A Theatrical Mixtape with DJ L’Oqenz. She is the creator and Course Director of Griots to Emcees: Culture, Performance & Spoken Word at York.
Known as the DIY Queen of Canadian filmmaking, Associate Professor Ingrid Veninger has received the WIFTS International Visionary Award, the Alliance of Women Film Journalists EDA Award for “Best Director” and the Jay Scott Prize awarded by the Toronto Film Critics Association. A member of the Directors Guild of Canada, and participant in the inaugural TIFF Studio, Berlinale Talents, and Rotterdam Producer’s Lab, Ingrid has been a mentor at the Canadian Film Centre, and Screenwriter-in-Residence at the University of Toronto. Her most recent feature, Crocodile Eyes, will premiere at the Canadian Film Fest in Toronto on Friday, March 28 at 4:30pm. Tickets here.
Veninger will moderate this event, which will take place in the Soundstage at YUMMS from 6-8 p.m. YUMMS — a production studio located within Cinespace Film Studios in Etobicoke — is replete with green screen, standing set, sound booth, rehearsal and performance spaces, cameras, lighting, and sound gear. It is an innovative hub open to the entire AMPD community.
