Katia Zuccarelli is a singer-songwriter obsessed with vintage clothes. Before going to a recording studio to sing background vocals for stars like Selena Gomez and The Scene, she’ll wear a full out vintage floral skirt with a slick black vintage tank top. Stylish right?
“In terms of my fashion,” says Zuccarelli. “I like to put an edge to it sometimes, like a hat and simple little touches.”
Zuccarelli, who has toured with Shiloh and was recently featured on the theme song of YTV’s new TV show, Life with Boys, finds that her fashion wear helps her become the kind of singer she wants to be portrayed as.
“In terms of inspiration, fashion is a lot like a fantasy world and it helps you get into character,” she explains.
And if there’s anything to take note of, it’s that Zuccarelli’s style makes her stand out. Flaunting a floral print reminiscent of vintage wallpapers, Zuccarelli is able to intrigue many of her fans and audience.
Her favourite places to shop are H&M, thrift stores (Value Village), and vintage boutiques. But some of her best finds have come from her grandmother’s closet.
Her grandmother’s closet has a wide variety of clothes from the 70s and 80s. Not only are the pieces fashionable, free, and well kept, but the clothes hold sentimental value for her, which is a big part of why she is obsessed with vintage.
Every morning, she’ll simply select a few pieces, mix it up with some of her more fashionable clothes and accessories, and top it off with a black fedora.
Although this rising star likes to have the most unique fashion wear, she also makes comfort a top priority.
“On stage, I try to choose what’s comfortable because I like to be able to connect with my fans as much as possible,” says Zuccarelli. “Say if I’m in super-high heels, it’d be really hard for me to reach down and touch their hand or something like that.”
At the moment Zuccarelli is following her dreams in the singing business. She feeds her love for fashion by taking design at the York University and Sheridan College Joint Design Program. But if you ever see Zuccarelli walking around Keele campus, don’t forget to ask her about her outfit. Maybe she’ll give you some useful fashion advice.
