The men’s and women’s volleyball teams are just over a third of the way through the season, and both the Lions and Lionesses are sitting third in their divisions, the men with a 5-2 record and the women at 5-3.
After dropping their first two games, the Lions have won their last five games, two of them in straight sets, and find themselves in a three-way tie for second place in the Ontario University Athletics East with Queen’s and Nipissing, and just two points behind first-place Ryerson.
The Lionesses, who initially won their first two games, then lost three-straight, won their last three going into the holiday break. With 10 points, the Lionesses have sole possession of third place.
They’re just two points behind second-place Ryerson, and four behind first-place U of T.
Both teams will have a chance to gain some ground on their cross-town rivals Ryerson Rams on January 14 before they host the lowly Trent Excalibur on the 15.
Both the Lions and Lionesses are surging right now, and should extend their winning streaks to seven and five games, respectively, when their seasons resume mid-January.
