With less than half of their regular seasons remaining, the men’s and women’s hockey teams are on completely different ends of the spectrum.
With a record of 11 wins, five losses and two losses in overtime, the Lions are in second place in the Ontario University Athletics, or OUA, West and in a position to host a playoff game. The Lionesses, who have a record of three wins, six losses and four losses in overtime, are in second-last place in the OUA West and in danger of missing the postseason altogether.
Despite their low rankings, the women have performed better than their record would indicate, as four of their losses came either in overtime or a shootout.
The good news is the Lionesses are only five points back of the eighth and final playoff spot, as U of T, UOIT, Queen’s and Ryerson are all tied for eighth with 17 points.
Meanwhile, the men are just three points behind first-place Ryerson and have won four of their last five games, with a goal differential of plus-14.
The men return to action on Friday, when they’ll be in London taking on the Western Mustangs at 7 p.m. The women’s next game is Saturday at home against Waterloo at 2 p.m. Then both teams play on Sunday: the men host Guelph at 2 p.m., while the women will be in Waterloo taking on Laurier at 7:30 p.m.
