The Lions football team lost their second game in a row on Saturday, when they took on the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the nation’s capital.
The game started very competitively, with the Gee-Gees slightly edging the Lions 14-10, by the end of the first quarter.
Ottawa drew first blood just four minutes into the game, jumping out to a 7-0 lead. However, the Lions responded quickly, first in the form of a 32-yard field goal by kicker Dante Mastrogiuseppe, and then, with three minutes to play in the opening frame, a major score courtesy of the Hunchak brothers, as quarterback Brett found his brother Colton for the 16-yard score.
The Lions 10-7 lead did not last long though, as the Gee-Gees scored another touchdown in the last seconds of the first quarter, regaining their slim lead.
The Lions scored their final six points of the game in the second quarter courtesy of two Mastrogiuseppe field goals. The Gee-Gees, on the other hand, put 10 points on the board in the second quarter to maintain their lead, by scoring a touchdown, and adding a field goal. The second quarter finished 24-16 for the Gee-Gees.
Ottawa would go on to score 18 more unanswered points in the second half, en route to the 42-16 victory.
The Lions’ next game is the annual Homecoming game, taking place this Saturday against the Waterloo Warriors. Kick-off is at 5 p.m.
