The Lions hosted the Carleton Ravens on Friday at Alumni Field. The game ended in a disappointing loss for the Lions, as the Ravens came out on top in the fourth quarter, after the Lions comeback attempt fell just short.
The Ravens dominated the first quarter, scoring two touchdowns, a field goal, and added a rouge, to take a 18-0 lead.
The Lions responded with a vengeance in the second, shutting out the Ravens, and scoring two safeties thanks to some aggressive blitze schemes from their defence. In the last minute of the second quarter, kicker Dante Mastrogiuseppe nailed a 35-yard field goal to end the second half with an 18-7 score.
York continued their resilient play in the third. Seven minutes in, Mastrogiuseppe recorded his second field goal of the game, this time a 20-yarder, cutting the Ravens’ lead to just eight. However, Carleton replied with a safety just three minutes later, extending their lead to 10. In the last minute of the third quarter, Kayden Johnson scored the Lions’ first major of the contest on a three-yard run, narrowing the Ravens’ lead to merely three points.
The last quarter, however, saw the Ravens extend their lead to 35-20, which would become the final score, completing two touchdowns and a rouge. The only bright spot for the Lions was another Mastrogiuseppe field goal, this time from 39 yards out.
The Lions will visit their cross-town rivals, U of T, next Saturday, in the annual Red and Blue Bowl—their final game of the season, at 1 p.m.
