The Lions hosted RMC and Queens at Tait Mackenzie this weekend. Both teams beat RMC in straight sets, but lost to Queen’s.
The women opened the action against RMC on Friday, easily dominating all three sets, winning them 25-16, 25-20, 25-21, to secure a 3-0 victory.
The men followed suit, also winning all three sets 25-16, 25-17, 25-23, to finish with a 3-0 win.
The standout performers were Kayla Clennon, who recorded 12.5 points, two assists and nine digs for the women, and Andrew Shotbolt, who recorded nine points, one assist and four digs for the men.
Against Queens on Saturday, the women struggled, losing the first two sets 25-19 and 25-12. York tried to stage a comeback by winning the third set 25-15, but eventually succumbed to Queens 25-22 in the fourth set to lose the game 3-1.
In the men’s game, Queens took the first set 25-20, but the Lions fought back to take the next two sets 25-23 and 25-20. Queens, however, recovered, winning the fourth and fifth sets, 25-19 and 15-11, to defeat the Lions 3-2.
The Lions’ next games are on the road against Brock on February 9 and at McMaster on February 10. Both games start at 1 p.m. for the women, and 3 p.m. for the men.
