The Lions travelled downtown last weekend to take on the Queen’s Gaels and University of Toronto Varsity Blues. The Lions easily took down the Gaels at 3-1 and were able to tie 0-0 with the Varsity Blues.

Saturday’s match against the Gaels saw the Lions take an early lead. Natalie Winter capitalized on a field goal early on, followed by Frankie St. Louis scoring off a penalty corner to put the Lions up 2-0 at the end of the first period.

The second and third periods were scoreless for both sides. The Gaels broke the scoring slump with a goal from Isabelle Mastantuono two minutes into the fourth period to put the Gaels onto the scoreboard. That was as high as they would climb though, as St. Louis scored again for the Lions with a few seconds left on the clock to end the game 3-1.

On Sunday, the Lions battled hard to prevent another loss at the hands of the Varsity Blues. Their efforts paid off as they did not pick up another loss. They instead took their first draw of the season after the match remained scoreless for both sides.

The Lions will head to Guelph on Saturday, October 5 to take on the Western Mustangs and the Guelph Gryphons. They will look to pick up some more wins to get out of their second-place in the OUA tie with Guelph and to close the four-point gap that separates them and the Varsity Blues.
