Should the YFS have British MP George Galloway speak on campus?

Ann James
First year, social work
“We have freedom of speech. I think it’s okay if Galloway comes to our school and makes known his opinion. So let him come say what he has to say.”

Avram Heisler
Third year, history
“Galloway backed the USSR when they went into Afghanistan [in 1979], and he [allegedly] denies the Tiananmen square massacre in China. It’s just weird the YFS would say he’s a freedom fighter and a worthy speaker.”

Syed Naqvi
Second year, economics
“We always promote thinking outside the box, but how are we going to get that if we don’t get different perspectives?”

Samantha Viera
Third year, English
“I don’t think he should be able to speak at York because he sounds like a pretty awful guy. What he talks about is not what we as Canadians stand for.”

I find it really concerning that you post accusations people have made that are clearly baseless. Where is the proof that Galloway supports terrorism or the massacre at Tiennamen square?
This really shows the lack of journalistic integrity our so-called student newspaper has.
Keep it up….At least do a better job of hiding your right wing bias.

Thanks for helping correct the fake and baseless accusations, the newspaper edited that phrase and added the words alleged in brackets to correct that student’s statement…
The truth will prevail
