In short: Go green challenge and York power outage

Glendon Group vying for ‘Go Green Challenge’ prize
An online vote will determine whether Glendon forest’s restoration project will get the jump-start it needs.
TD Canada Bank is hosting the “Go Green Challenge,” an online video contest that awards a grand prize of $100,000 to the winning party to use toward an ecological sustainability project, as well as a $2,500 prize for the video with the most votes.
York’s forest restoration project, led by Regenesis@York, is hoping to use the money to put a down payment on the project itself.
“It would make things go quicker, definitely,” said Darnel Harris, one of the restoration project leaders featured in the video advocating for the project.
While the project to restore Glendon’s forest will happen regardless of the vote results, Darnel hopes the video will help get the community involved in the project and that the York community will help monitor the forest as the project continues.
The poll is available at www.tdgogreenchallenge.com; voting ends March 11.

Cause of York power outage remains unknown
A series of power outages has plagued York University and parts of the surrounding York region, yet the causes of these recent mishaps remain unclear.
Keele campus and the surrounding York region witnessed three power outages from Feb. 10 to Feb. 11. According to incident reports filed by Toronto Hydro, all outage causes were documented as “unknown.”
The first power outage affected Keele Campus at York University on Feb. 10 around noon and lasted roughly 20 minutes. More outages followed the evening of Feb. 10 at 10 p.m., affecting parts of the York region area without having a direct impact on the Keele campus in the morning of Feb. 11.
Janice Walls of York media confirmed the power outage affected 30 buildings on campus, and lasted a total of 20 minutes. The details of which 30 on-campus buildings that were affected were not documented, as the disturbance was short-lived.
The office of the vice-president students stated “if a class was cancelled, students could contact the registrar’s office and it would be up to the faculty to address the concern.”
However, they added no complaints have been brought forth since regarding this matter.
