Donning vibrant, traditional garments decorated with beads, feathers and sashes, First Nations performers kicked off the three-day Aboriginal Awareness celebrations at York University March 3 at the Student Centre with a series of artistic presentations. The ninth annual event – which included poetry and song recitals, guest speaking sessions and traditional dance – was held to raise awareness of Aboriginal identity and the importance of Aboriginal youth education.
