A victim of the recent washroom voyeur incidents has come forward to Excalibur and said that there may be more than one suspect in the cases.
January 31, a second voyeurism incident occurred in the Health, Nursing and Environmental Studies (HNES) building at Keele campus. At around 11:25 a.m., two female students visited the first floor women’s washroom.
One of the students, Jenny Chae, says she entered first and spotted a man standing in front of the sinks. Because he was facing the mirror, she notes, Chae was able to see his features.
“There was a girl inside the stall, so I’m not sure whether she noticed the guy was standing in the washroom,” she wrote to Excalibur in an e-mail. When she noticed the man, Chae instantly left the washroom, closing the door. Since she was with a friend, she opened the washroom door again. The intruder then rushed out and fled the scene.
She emphasized that her opinion of his appearance is solely subjective, but also wrote, “He seemed to [her] as a guy from Iran, someone from the Middle East.” The suspect was described to be about five-foot-ten, unshaved, and wearing baggy sweatpants and a dark green jacket.
Chae and the other student reported the incident to York security, who called a Toronto police investigator to the site to question the witnesses.
Wallace Pidgeon of York media says that the investigation is currently ongoing. Police patrols and personnel have been increased campus-wide and CCTV tapes are still being reviewed.
“I don’t believe it was the same suspect as [the last] incident,” he agreed with Chae. He added that York security is working with Toronto police to apprehend the suspects.
