York University professor and filmmaker John Greyson is currently being detained in Egypt after being arrested on August 17.
Also arrested was emergency room physician and assistant professor at Western University, Tarek Loubani.
Egypt was originally intended to be a stop-over for Greyson and Loubani, both of whom were intending to go to Gaza when they were apprehended by Egyptian police on Friday.
Greyson was on his way to Gaza in the hopes of shooting a documentary, while Loubani was taking part in the training of local doctors.
The reason for their arrest still unknown.
Greyson and Loubani were met with an unexpected delay when the border crossing was closed, which resulted in Greyson and Loubani having to stay in Cairo an extra night. It was during this extended stay that they were arrested.
