YFS and York admin host a joint spirit day

If you happen to see a sea of red and white around campus November 16, you can attribute it to York’s spirit day.
According to Vanessa Hunt, president of the York Federation of Students (YFS), the concept of a spirit day arose after the university approached the YFS upon learning of the university-wide lip dub, a video showcasing York students on campus dancing and synced to different songs.
“[Lip dub] showed why people want to come to York in the first place and highlighted some of the positive aspects that we have,” says Hunt.
The lip dub will be premiering in the Student Centre November 16 at noon. It will be accompanied by face-painting, a speech from the York president Mamdouh Shoukri, and will be followed by a York pep rally.
Monirul Pathan, vice-president of campus life of the YFS, emphasized that it is important to have school spirit.
“We go to a campus that’s very big,” he says, pointing to York’s large population. “It’s really important to have a good sense of community.”
Those wearing red or white clothes will be given raffle tickets for a chance to win a prize. The spirit day will go until about 1 p.m., and it is expected that a few hundred students will be in attendance.
